Dinosaur Erotica: The Omnibus by Lola Faust

Aaaand it's back to dino-erotica-land! This is a compilation of two of Faust's (short) novels and some short stories that comprise a third book. I've read the books contained within already, so I was largely in this to see what the introduction would look like. I sped through the books again to see if my memories held up (short answer: yes). I also pulled a quote from each of them, because really, what the actual (dinosaur) fuck, and if some of them are quotes I've pulled before...well, let's just say that some things are so horrifying that they just stick with you.
Wet Hot Allosaurus Summer: This falls so fully in the WTF category that it would be high up on my list of Faust's books to recommend if you want your brain really, really broken. Highs include traumatic amputation that the main character basically shrugs off (I want this to be a reflection of the American health care system, as I suppose the care Tanis gets is probably about on par with what health insurance would allow; unfortunately that part of things takes place in Canada) and a dino sex cult.
Choice quote: His scent was overpowering. His breath was salt and blood and heat, a glorious and primordial stink. (loc. 276*)
Fifty Shades of Gorgosaur: Fifty Shades parody, obviously. And honestly, all I can really say is thank god this book is nowhere near as long as the original trilogy.
Choice quote: A frothy, slimy mixture of dinosaur saliva and goat-gristle ran in rivulets down her breast and dripped from her nipple.
Why is this sexy? Why, in God's name, do I want this creature to ram me like a monster truck? (loc. 1271)
Triceratops and Bottoms: This is basically an set of short stories about Erin, a woman in the future who is just so bored with the ease of her life that, when presented with a time machine (nobody else wants to use it, apparently), she uses it exclusively to run around the Jurassic era and have sex with dinosaurs.
Choice quote: She'd hoped to travel back in time to a crazy era, maybe have sex in the deep trenches of the WWI combatants. Dangerous, sure, but it would be worth it. Besides, she would be safe because she had the gadgets to protect her. (loc. 1764)
A bonus second choice quote: The ladies screamed delightfully and turned to each other, looking at the fluids dripping down their bodies. They kissed and smeared each other with the stuff, feeling the hotness of the moment. (loc. 2245)
Foreword: The foreword is short, and normally a foreword wouldn't even really rate a mention. But this is the only new material in the book, and it is oddly confusing. Dated March 2026, the foreword says Taken together, these three works represent the complete (for now) canon of my dinosaur erotica (loc. 11). But this is...categorically false, no? I have read my way determinedly, irrationally, against-my-better-judgement-ly through Faust's oeuvre, and there is quite a lot more on the list. What about Dino Stud, All I Want for Christmas Is Utahraptor, Dino Scores (which just came out in February), Don Juan Velociraptor, or the short stories that aren't in this collection? Obviously they don't have to be included in this omnibus, but it's very odd to have them written off entirely.
Best if read purely for entertainment purposes. If you are curious—and don't say you haven't been warned—this collection does give you more dino-bang for your buck...but, you know. Maybe read a single shorter work first to see if it gives you a laugh, or if you can stomach it.
Thanks to the author and publisher for providing a review copy through NetGalley.
